Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) aims to provide a pucca house with basic amenities to every eligible family — Housing for All. It runs in two parts: PMAY-Urban (PMAY-U) for cities and towns, and PMAY-Gramin (PMAY-G) for rural areas.
Key Benefits
- PMAY-Urban: interest subsidy on home loans or direct financial assistance to build/buy a house (up to about ₹1.5–2.67 lakh depending on category and city)
- PMAY-Gramin: assistance of ₹1.20 lakh in plain areas and ₹1.30 lakh in hilly/difficult areas to build a pucca house
- Additional support through convergence with other schemes (toilet, LPG, electricity, drinking water)
- Preference to women, senior citizens, SC/ST and disabled beneficiaries
Eligibility Criteria
- Household should not own a pucca house anywhere in India
- Urban: EWS/LIG/MIG categories based on annual income (varies by category)
- Rural: families identified under SECC 2011 or Awaas+ survey
