Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) provides free LPG cooking gas connections to women from poor households. Launched in May 2016, the scheme has already delivered more than 10 crore connections, protecting millions of women from the health risks of smoky chulhas.
Key Benefits
- Free LPG connection in the name of the woman of the household
- Under Ujjwala 2.0, the first refill and a hotplate (stove) are also provided free
- Connection and equipment costs are borne by the government

Eligibility Criteria
- Women aged 18 years or above from poor households
- Households identified under SECC, PMAY-G beneficiaries, MGNREGA job-card holders, or similar poverty criteria
- The household must not already have an LPG connection
Documents Required
- Aadhaar card of the applicant
- Bank account details (for subsidy)
- Ration card or SECC proof
- Passport-size photograph
How to Apply
- Visit the nearest LPG distributor (Indane, HP Gas or Bharat Gas) or the official portal: pmuy.gov.in
- Fill the Ujjwala application form with the required documents
- The distributor verifies the details and issues the connection
- First refill and stove are delivered with the connection (under Ujjwala 2.0)
